What are cookies?

Nearly all websites store a piece of information, called a cookie, on your computer’s hard drive. This cookie records how you move around that website. This allows the site to tailor your view, based on what you did in your last visit. Cookies can also be used to analyse traffic and for advertising and marketing.

Cookies are either:

  • Session cookies: stored on your computer during your web session and deleted when you close your browser. They save you having to log in to each page again, but they do not collect any personal data from your computer
  • Persistent cookies: stored as a file on your computer, ready for when you next visit that website again. (for example Google Analytics cookies help the site owner count how many unique visitors they’re getting in a month.)

what cookies do we use?

We use a “session” cookie on this site. This cookie does not record any personal data. It is used to remember any preferences that you have set for the site whilst you are here. This cookie expires when you close your web browser. When you first open this website, you will see a message letting you know that the site sets a cookie, as explained above. If you do not wish the session cookie to be set, you can disable cookies in your browser.

Most browsers let you choose to:-

  • Accept all cookies
  • Block all cookies
  • Allow / block cookies from specific websites
  • Allow / block cookies from third-party sites – outside of the direct control of the site that you are on

Third-party cookies are often advertising cookies. But they can also include social media links. We don’t use third-party cookies.
